| In 2003, Marie Cole made the decision to leave northern Michigan and head south. She settled in the small valley town of Talihina, Oklahoma and began to practice pediatric medicine to serve the needs of the children of the Choctaw Nation. Marie fell in love with the area and soon purchased 140 hilly acres of mixed pasture and woodlands. In lieu of an initial lease payment, she acquired two commercial heifers. To build a herd, she bought Maine Anjou heifers. After meeting and marrying Danny Holland, a cattleman with over 40 years of experience in the business, they purchased their first Shorthorn heifer. More Shorthorns followed. In the disastrous drought of 2011, they sold the Maine Anjou cattle. They are now working on improving their Shorthorn herd with concentration on acquiring and breeding high quality cattle. They recently began showing heifers and are enjoying this new venture.
